African tribal Jewelry

I can never just stick to one thing, one art form, one medium, one job, one home.  I am a wanderer with a wild, gypsy heart.  However, I do return to certain themes in my artwork over and over again.  When I received my New book; Ancient Modern, Polymer Clay and Wire Jewelry by Ronna Sarvas Weltman, I was reminded of some African inspired jewelry that I made a few years back.  I have been inspired again to create some new pieces with that tribal, ethnic flair. 

I have to pull out some of the polymer discs that I made during a very ambitious "disc" faze and combine them with stone, beach glass, sea shells, and polymer to create some new Summer pieces.

I will be sure to share my new creations with you but, in the meantime, here are a few of my vintage tribal pieces along with the African, Tagua Nut, necklace I purchased, that inspired the tribal theme which morphed into the disc thing, which somehow jumped over to graffiti and jellyfish.

Forest Floor Tribal Necklace This one is all me.  Inspired by the ground in the wooded part of our property.  This necklace was featured in Belle Armoire magazine, Whenever it was created, years ago.

I just got my copy today and so far I love it.  I can't wait to sit down and really look through and read it!

Memorial Weekend

My husband brought home the cutest Hibiscus plants and planted them in the front gardens for me.  He knows how I love flowers!  Aren't these pretty?

Clay covered mirrors

Here are few of my clay covered mirrors.  I am getting ready for the holiday shows by making a few items each week.

Bird Houses

I love bird houses!  I have many of them scattered about the gardens and the back yard.  My husband made this one out of my old dresser and our son's old bed.  I painted it!  It still needs some decoration but I am happy with it so far.  I hope that the fairies see it and decide to move in! 

Mushroom Troll

My Mushroom Troll is an all original sculpt.  His head hands and feet are polymer clay (a bastardized mixture of many brands), painted with acrylics, his body is wire armature covered in paper tape, poly-batting, and his costume was all hand stitched right on to his body.

His father was a Mushroom Troll and his mother was a wild boar (that's where he gets his charm and good looks from)!  He feeds on wild mushrooms and grubs.

He doesn't have a name yet, any suggestions?

New Mushroom Troll Face and mold

I sculpted a new mushroom troll face and made a mold of it for Sarajane Helm's http://polyclay.com/blog Mask Swap 2009.  I colored them with chalks and altered the shapes to make them all a little different.

I joined two groups.  For group two I made a bunch of Samba MaMas.  These photos are not great but you get the pic'.

Mother's Day in Calistoga

I spent Mother's Day in Calistoga with my Mother and sister.  We soaked away our stress and sorrows in mineral and mud baths, steam saunas, hot and cold pools, massages, and washed it all down with a lovely dinner and cocktails.

Getting ready for Poly-Palooza in Lake Tahoe, in June

I have been scheduled for a couple of demos for Poly-Palooza, Clayville California's annual polymer clay retreat.  I plan on demo-ing a surface design treatment that I call Graffiti Garden. 

I have no idea what this plant is but, I think the colors are wonderful and so are the textures.  It is inspiring me to create something with spreckled, striped patterns like it.  Isn't it beautiful?
